Location: Bok, 1901 S. 9th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148
This role will operate primarily out of Scout’s office at Bok with some remote work possible
Stipend: $3,000 (paid in monthly payments of $1,000)
Duration: 3 months (mid-May through mid-August)
Educational Credits: If eligible, Scout will also complete & sign off on college internship
Scout is an interdisciplinary design and development practice working to transform the Bok, a former Vocational School and an iconic 340,000 sq. ft. Art Deco building in South Philadelphia, into a creative facility for artisans, entrepreneurs and community groups. This mixed-use development is unlike anything undertaken to date in the region and as we enter the final phase of this project, the role provides a unique opportunity for an ambitious and talented individual to contribute to a critical stage of the project. Scout is seeking a full-time summer intern to focus on community engagement at Bok in South Philadelphia. With nearly 200 tenants, including glassblowers, a play-based preschool, jewelers, design firms, non-profits, production studios, and so much more, Scout is always seeking new ways to engage and promote the Bok tenant community — as well as build stronger ties to the community beyond the building. We’re looking for engaged thinkers with diverse skill sets, who will bring creativity and enthusiasm to our small and dedicated team. The ideal candidate is pursuing or holds an undergraduate degree in communications, urban studies/urban planning, graphic design and/or business administration. Successful candidates will have a relevant background, applicable skills and enthusiasm for Scout’s work.
Take the lead in writing and laying out content for Bok’s summer newspaper, sending the design documents to print and uploading the digital version to Bok’s website via Issuu (See the digital version of a past issue here)
Assist the leasing and operations team with the development and implementation of a tenant appreciation program
Plan and facilitate weekly outdoor “lunch & learn” events with the tenant community
Support the Bok events team as needed
Provide general administrative support and carry out other tasks as required
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and Squarespace
Excellent communication skills, particularly writing and copyediting
Graphic design and photography experience a plus!
Precise approach to work and an eye for detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
A highly professional demeanor with strong attention to detail
A self motivated and proactive individual who’s able to work independently and manage time efficiently
Must be comfortable carrying out administrative tasks as needed
