Scout is an urban design and development practice focused on creative reuse within vacant buildings and spaces in ways that are both playful and mindful. With a mix of expertise - from design to project management and community engagement - we bring a thoughtful pragmatism to our work.

 

Our largest project to date has been the transformation of the iconic Bok Building in South Philadelphia. The thoughtful rehabilitation of the historic 340,000 square foot building has been recognized by ULI Philadelphia, the Congress for New Urbanism and recently shortlisted for the Rebirth award by Dezeen. Scout is currently working on reimagining the historic Cranston Street Armory (Providence, RI) into a ‘castle of the people’ in addition to an adaptive reuse project of a former manufacturing complex (Providence, RI).

POSITION SUMMARY

We’re looking for a passionate full-time Marketing and Communications Manager to create cohesive marketing efforts across all of Scout’s projects. This role requires a candidate who brings a thoughtful approach to layered projects with multiple evolving brands, objectives, and audiences. You will be a creative thought-partner working collaboratively across leasing, hospitality, community engagement, operations and development. In addition to external storytelling and design of marketing materials, this role will also oversee internal messaging which includes marketing, branding, and financial deck design.

 

The right candidate has a strong graphic design background and copywriting skills and is able to adapt tones and storytelling approaches to be audience appropriate. You are creative and able to research, brainstorm and lead new initiatives.

 

We are a small, entrepreneurial, energetic team and therefore looking for someone who appreciates a start-up atmosphere and can remain highly organized in such an environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Alongside the Director of Leasing and Director of Development, this role will drive Scout’s communications strategy across projects, managing internal and external messaging, overseeing social media accounts and developing editorial content on digital platforms (website, e-newsletters) and in-print publications (quarterly newspapers, yearbook) for various brands.

● Develop comprehensive communications strategy including both external storytelling and marketing as well as internal messaging

● Manage all elements for marketing campaigns from the ground up, including creation of graphics and visuals; writing copy for longer form articles, blog posts and press releases; and developing briefs, presentations, decks

● Collaborate across Scout’s workstreams to ensure communications and marketing needs are met

● Develop and nurture relationships with the tenant community and help amplify their voices and stories

● Hire and manage freelance photographers, illustrators, graphic designers, content creators and others to support the creation of visual content

● Oversee the development of creative, media and presentation materials

● Oversee social media content strategy and creation and strengthen all social channels using strategic storytelling

● Identify press worthy stories, collaborations, and projects; write and disseminate press releases to general media coverage locally and nationally and react quickly to incoming media requests; develop/strengthen relationships with press contacts

● Create and maintain relationships with external media outlets and partners (national/local media, industry, press, other) to help grow and improve our brand perception

● Maintain and update websites for each brand (scout-ltd.com, buildingbok.com, bok-bar.com)

● Create and maintain an internal communications calendar with key dates to support messaging and storytelling strategies as well as narratives around major milestones and events

● Support operations team in creating internal communications (e-newsletters, emails, etc.) and developing/improving wayfinding and signage

● Manage digital and print press archive

 

REQUIREMENTS

● 5+ years of experience in marketing and communications

● Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or other relevant subject ● Excellent command of verbal and written communication and excellent interpersonal skills

● Exceptional visual and graphic communication as well as writing skills

● Highly proficient in Adobe CreativeSuite, InDesign or comparable software

● Self-motivated, proactive and extremely well-organized

● Strategic thinker with creative problem solving skills

● Strong command of web and social analysis and insight development

● Some night/weekend hours required
